Gite holidays in France are popular with many of the millions of visitors that France welcomes each year. With small Apartments and cottages in beautiful rural surroundings, splendid villas with palatial swimming pools, even castles available, it is obvious why. There is every type of holiday rental property available, to suit all budgets and all tastes, in all regions of France.
The freedom of a gite or self-catering holiday is its main attraction - you can come and go as you like, and do what you want. The other attraction is the properties themselves - many gite holidays are in fine old restored properties, and you can see a side of France that may not be apparent if you stay in a hotel. So if you are looking for a gite holiday in France, take a good look at a few of the rentals available before making your choice - there are a lot of options!
Is it a family-friendly gite? Or pet-friendly?
A lot of us have special requirements when we travel, and can only enjoy ourselves if certain facilities are in place.
If you are looking for child friendly gites, or a disabled- or pet friendly gite, make sure you are upfront and clear with the owner at the time of enquiring. An active young rental owner might not be aware how awkward their staircase is for less agile visitors, and if someone has never had children they are unlikely to notice whether they have a child-friendly property or not!
Please don't tell the gite owner that you have a quiet well-behaved dog and then turn up with two ferocious alsations - yes it has happened to us!
