Why choose a gite holiday in France?
Self-catering holidays in France are popular with many of the millions of visitors that France welcomes each year. From small apartments and cottages in beautiful rural surroundings to splendid villas with palatial swimming pools, and even castles available, it is obvious why! There is every type of holiday rental property available, to suit all budgets and all tastes, in all regions of France.
The freedom that you have to travel and explore at your own pace is a large attraction - you can come and go as you like, and do what you want, and of course you don't need to eat at restaurants every night if you don't want to (although you should sometimes!)
The other attraction is the properties themselves - many of the properties are in fine old restored character houses, and you can see a side of France that may not be apparent if you stay in a hotel.
Is it a family-friendly property? Or pet-friendly?
A lot of us have special requirements when we travel, and can only enjoy ourselves if certain facilities are in place.
If you are looking for child friendly gites, or a disabled- or pet friendly place to stay, make sure you are upfront and clear with the owner at the time of enquiring. An active young rental owner might not be aware how awkward their staircase is for less agile visitors, and if someone has never had children they are unlikely to notice whether they have a child-friendly property or not!
Note: please don't tell the owner that you have a quiet well-behaved dog and then turn up with two ferocious alsations - yes it has happened to us!
